You’RE not alone.
Our mission is to help people discover and obtain their unique version of wholeness. With an emphasis on emotional intelligence, we can increase a baseline level of self awareness, challenge limiting belief systems, and develop a true sense of identity. This will provide the necessary tools to navigate life's adversities in the healthiest ways, while increasing performance in the athletes’ respective sport, allowing them to play with a newfound and sustainable freedom.
The Self-Help Tour is empowering champions in all aspects of their journey, including resilience of the mind. For too long, the unwritten rules of "toughing it out" have discouraged many talented individuals from acknowledging normal struggles and seeking help. By normalizing vulnerability and compassion through open dialog, our aim is to reduce silent suffering due to misguided stigmas of weakness. We all contend with life's difficulties; together, through empathy and education, a braver environment emerges where no one feels alone or afraid to reach for needed support. Together, we aspire to share powerful stories of human triumphs over adversity until the stigma melts away. In its place, we are creating a shared understanding that we are all human and on a journey to become our best selves inside and out.
THE MISTAKES, THE LESSONS, THE TRIUMPH
MEET KALEB JOSEPH
EARLY YEARS
Kaleb was raised in a chaotic and dysfunctional household, one of eleven siblings and the only child between both parents. Despite these challenges, he turned to basketball as an escape from the turmoil of his upbringing, which was marked by generational trauma. Seeking stability in his living conditions forced Kaleb to couch-surf between coaches and friends in order to attend practices and games. His hard work paid off when he received his first Division 1 scholarship offer as an eighth grader. Eventually becoming one of the top 10 point guard recruits in the country.
THE COMMITMENT
Kaleb Joseph's dreams seemed to be coming true when he committed to play basketball at Syracuse University. However, the reality was far different.
THE FALL FROM GRACE
As a pre season National Freshman of the Year canidate, Kaleb faced intense pressure and expectations that proved to be overwhelming. Rather than being a source of solace and therapy, basketball became a source of anxiety for Kaleb. He struggled to cope with the highs and lows of his elite career and began seeking other ways to escape. Unknowingly, he fell into the same pattern of generational trauma that marked his family's history. Feeling responsible for breaking his family's generational chains through his success, Kaleb became paralyzed by anxiety and fear. To the point that he became afraid to show his face on campus after being named one of Sports Illustrated's top 10 most disappointing players.
ROCK BOTTOM
When the pain of feeling like he let his family down became insufferable, he sought relief in unhealthy coping mechanisms, ultimately leading to an addiction that went unnoticed by everyone around him. Despite having a degree in Healthy Lifestyle Management he was unable to acknowledge the issues in himself that he had been trying to prevent and heal in other athletes. After hitting rock bottom, Kaleb was aided by the help of two former nba players in recovery who knew the struggles ahead in pursuit of turning his pain into purpose.
PAIN INTO PURPOSE
Knowing all too well that he is not alone in his experiences and struggles, Kaleb now travels across the country sharing his story. Working as a life coach for athletes, he provides them with the tools necessary to discover and obtain their unique version of wholeness outside of their sport. Through emotional intelligence workshops, life coaching, and consulting, Kaleb is helping athletes of all ages lean into vulnerability, build self awareness, and cultivate a sense of identity that can carry them through all of life’s adversities.
